growing old

You know you are getting old when:

1 the pump attendant or the salesgirl call you 'auntie'
2 you keep losing your things and you have no idea or memory of what had happened
3 you keep repeating the same old story to the same people
4 you walk into the hip little boutiques and the young girls stare at you
5 it gets harder and harder to recover from sicknesses
6 you cannot remember your students' names

The first time I heard a kid greet me as Uncle, it kind of made me felt that I had to be responsible adult from then on.

Then the first time I heard a young man in his twenties greet me as uncle, it kind of made me felt like - 'hey do I really look that old.'

That was when I realised what the phrase 'young at heart' really meant for I had started to experience it.

You have my sympathies, Jenny, and although it is a situation that I am increasingly becoming familiar with, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. It still grates everytime I hear it.

p.s. your blogs are a joy, and both enlightening and educational at the same time. Long may you continue.
